For international readers: about ASSN
The Meteor Section was developing an All-sky camera system to capture in high resolution fireballs, called ASSN (All Sky System Netherlands). In total 5 stations were being built, to be installed nicely distributed over the Netherlands. During the test phase two stations were erected in Bergharen and Twisk. Each system consisted of a custom built Mamiya body / Nikkor 16 mm fisheye combination imaging on 220 roll film emulsion and was supported by an all sky video system for time registration as well as an ensemble of sensors for fully automated operation. The stations were connected to a central host that monitors status. Currently, the Meteor Section is assessing how to repurpose the hardware for other forms of meteor observations, such as fire ball (bolide) monitoring during twilight hours.
